Meta Connect Is Next Week, and the Tease Is Glasses Again

September 23–24 at Menlo Park, livestreamed. What's confirmed is thin; what's credible is another display-glasses tier and more of the neural wristband. What isn't coming is a new Quest.

Meta Connect 2026 runs September 23 and 24 at Meta’s Menlo Park campus, with Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote on the evening of the 23rd and developer sessions on the 24th. It’s livestreamed. This is a preview, so here’s the discipline: what Meta has said, what reporting suggests, and what we’d rather not guess at.

That’s genuinely it. Everything else below is reporting and inference, labelled as such.

What reporting points to

More display glasses. The credible expectation is a successor or sibling to the Ray-Ban Display line, possibly at a more affordable tier. That would fit the pattern: Meta’s glasses business is the part of its hardware strategy that has actually found customers, and a cheaper display model is the obvious next move.

The neural wristband. Meta has been demonstrating sEMG wrist input — reading the electrical activity of forearm muscles to detect intended finger movements — for years, and shipped a version alongside its display glasses. Continued buildout is expected.

Not a new Quest. Per the same reporting, the headset roadmap allows at most a tease: Griffin (a Quest 4-class device) no earlier than H2 2027, and the ultralight Puffin in H1 2027. If you’re waiting on new VR hardware, this is not that event.

The thread worth watching

The wristband is the interesting one for this audience, and it connects to something we covered two days ago: a research wristband using capacitive pressure sensing to recover hand pose and contact force, from researchers at Meta’s own Reality Labs.

Two different wrist-sensing approaches, one shipping and one in the lab, pointing at the same conclusion: the wrist is where input for glasses is going to live. Cameras can’t see your hands when they’re at your side, in a pocket, or in the dark, and nobody is going to wave at the air on a train. A band that reads intention from muscle activity works in all those cases and is socially invisible.

If Connect shows meaningful progress on wrist input — more gestures, more precision, or any hint of pressure and force rather than discrete gestures — that matters considerably more to artists and interaction designers than another pair of frames. Force is the expressive dimension gesture control has never had, and it’s the difference between a remote control on your arm and an instrument.
